This book is written with the objective of sharing my experiences in leading the country’s Fire and Rescue Services Department. Into the Fire is a story about the importance of change. The ideas that were implemented to enhance the department were not new. We did not invent or reinvent concepts; we merely learnt and adapted them with a large close of common sense. Our shared success was made possible by men and women who saw themselves first and foremost as life savers and dedicated fighters. To create momentum, leveraged the strength of a united propose and culture, which is comprised of the shared values, beliefs, traditions and behavioural norms within the group. For an organization to be strong, equal emphasis must be given to developing both leaders and teams to create synergies in the performance of the duties.
